As a program of the Centre for Race and Culture, the Mosquers is a video contest encouraging Muslims (and Non-Muslims alike) to “grab a camera and send a message” about Muslims or Islam in Canada. For the last 4 years, The Mosquers has been very successful in addressing stereotypes and misconceptions about Islam to the media and general public. By encouraging individuals to use the artistic medium of film/video, young Muslims have been given the opportunity to entertain, educate and decrease stereotypes & misconceptions about Islam in a creative and effective way.
Using the creative tool of film and video, The Mosquers aims to:
1. Decrease commonly held stereotypes and misconceptions of Muslims and Islam
2. Educate and promote understanding
The Mosquers Awards Night showcases finalist entries where a judging panel determines winners for each category (i.e. Drama, Comedy, Social Consciousness). Cash prizes and a Mosquers Trophy are awarded to winners.
Organized by an energetic and committed group of young Muslim volunteers with strong support by the Centre for Race and Culture (CRC) and the Edmonton Council of Muslim Communities (ECMC), the Mosquers is now an annual event!
